The starfish straddels the bivalve and pulls it open to a small degree, then pushes its stomach

in through the gap, whereby it starts to digest the meat of the mussel.... allegedly!

The starfish has two stomachs. One that it can evert, which is able to release enzymes that turn the mussel meat into a soup, which it can then

absorb and pass up into its internal stomach for later full digestion.

please hurry with the cd, then you can publish the stomach video sample bit on the web. Its rather neat.

Ive seen this on the beta cd and it is very cool. The web pics are limited - i guess for this bandwidth thingy thing. still good that people are

yep the web pics - sequence - are enough to give the idea that the stomach comes out - not a bad little point of interest to put to general

public.

Some kids did not believe me when I told them of the stomach antics - so swiftly I marched them to their PCs and

www.seashoreantics.com/feature_010_feeding.html was commanded - 3 mins later they went off and got me cup of tea, biscuits and a wagon wheel.
